It’s apparent that ‘Evening Light’ is exactly the same composition as ‘So I Sat Down Beside Her and All We Did Was Talk’ I made many drawings and some quick colour sketches of this path in East Sussex. All of them at different times of day and in different light. Apart from leaving out the figure of Olympia, this version is larger but uses the same composition. I also handled the surface differently and made the texture more important and brought the tonal difference much closer.
