I see sport; especially team contact sports, as a substitute for war. I’m sure that is a common feeling. In fact some fans seem to believe it is war and will go about inflicting violence and injury on members of the opposition’s team supporters. This seems to be so primarily with soccer/football., but surprisingly, not with the more violent contact sports such as rugby or American football, where off the field, the fans and the players do not behave as enemies. In an odd turnabout the players do not mirror the relative peacefulness of the fans in the game of ice hockey. Almost without exception, I enjoy watching and drawing skilled sportsmen and women as you can see in this gallery.
