Landscapes

In this gallery you will find my modernist vision of the traditional subject of “Landscape”. The paintings are each of a real place but the approach I take is that of a painter who’s primary interest is in the rectangle of the canvas and in recognition of the fact that the canvas is two-dimensional. These landscapes are not pretending to be reality. I go out of my way to remind you, the viewer, that you are looking at a painting not a landscape. I do this by deliberately not using perspective, or by painting an imaginary frame around the picture and then putting an object outside the frame. I also occasionally use colour that is not “natural” and I also take recognisable images from famous paintings and insert them into my landscapes. There are other games I play in these and in many of my paintings. I leave you to discover them and to enjoy them.
