Description

If you have been to a city in the USA you will have come across blocks of apartments known as “Condo’s”. That is the short form for condominium. My wife and I rented an apartment in a condo in Florida for two weeks. It had a pool and all sorts of other amenities. I didn’t paint there because I was afraid of making a mess in the apartment. However, I did take lots of photographs and filled a sketchbook with drawings of the people living there and sitting out in the pool area. Most of them seemed to me to be retirees. Probably snowbirds. Meaning those who escape the Canadian winter from November to March. No one talked to anyone they didn’t know.

This painting was made over a period of two months in my studio after I returned from the USA. A long, slow, sometimes boring process of painting lots of straight lines. Something I don’t enjoy much but the final result proved to be very satisfying. Painting the water was fun.
