Description

I made my first drawing for the series on the bus leaving Auschwitz. It developed into this piece in the studio, and then more than 200 images followed over more than two years. This drawing came about from reading a plaque on the wall of the gas chamber. It read; The killing time was from 3 to 15 minutes for one chamber full. 8 more Jews could be put in the chamber if everybody held their arms up. I incorporated that text into my image. It didn’t mention, but I learnt later, that children could be put on the heads and shoulders of the Jews to be more efficient. Efficiency was important in the killing factories.
