Description
The umschlagplatz was the place that the Jews from the ghettos had to congregate to climb into the train cattle cars to be sent to the concentration camps.
They were allowed to take one small case of personal possessions which were later confiscated before they were sent to the gas chambers or selected as slaves for German industry.
Not only their personal possessions were stolen but also their hair to stuff pillows and their skin was used for lamp shades.
I made this drawing after talking to survivors and non Jewish Polish witnesses.
