I saw this couple at Tate Modern in the cafe. She was younger than he. That’s what made think this must be a university lecturer talking to his student. In my painting she is looking directly at him and is hanging onto every word. The space between them vibrates with desire. The colour is subdued but I deliberately gave him a red sweater, the direct complimentary of her green jacket. They and we are oblivious of the space around them.
