Description

This woman was seen at Tate Gallery’s member’s lounge. She was talking about all sorts of things to her companion across the table and being very expressive. I made quick thumbnail sketches of her and was reminded of the line from T S Eliot’s poem The Love Song of Alfred J Prufrock; ‘In the room the women come and go Talking of Michelangelo’. The colours were kept muted and very close to each other in tone in order to try to achieve the feeling of seeing her silhouetted against the window in the lounge, without actually painting a silhouette.
