Description

The director and conductor of the London contemporary music ensemble ‘Sounds Positive’ is also a composer. He writes many of the pieces they play.

I was playing too when I made this painting. The game for me was to place the figure against an abstract rectilinear background, using a minimum of colour, in order to emphasise the non-rectilinear contours of the figure. The negative shapes created by the contours of the figure against the abstract rectangles also had to help emphasise the movement of the hand of the conductor. I wanted to make the viewers believe they were looking at someone in a state of concentration, or perhaps, reading the score as he conducts.
