Images of the mind are impossible to tie down. They change the moment I begin to make marks on the painting surface. The marks themselves begin suggesting something else. The numbers (as titles) do not indicate the order in which the works were made. They serve as designations only. I believe that the use of numbers in place of titles should prevent the viewer searching for a subject.
In the act of removing paint, by scraping or using solvent, unexpected things happen to the surface of the painting, Sometimes these unexpected happenings can be kept and sometimes covered with more paint. If the covering colour is deliberately mixed with medium to make it semi transparent colours that can not be achieved by direct application are created. The painting develops, it seems, of its own volition.
