No 1 With Piggot Up

I’m fascinated by thoroughbred horses and also by the terminology used in the racing industry. Terms such as the name of the rider and the word ‘up’ to denote that he was riding the horse. Thoroughbred horses are a most intelligent and wonderful animal. They have surprisingly different personalities from one another. Some are spiteful, others have a sense of humour. All are very aware. I painted this for the first one man show I had in London a few years ago. The exhibition was entitled ‘A Day at the Races’ after one of my favourite Mark’s Brothers movies. I enjoyed painting Piggot’s silks.
