Description

Blaru is a small town in Normandy, near the tiny hamlet; Hameau de Normandie, where I spent a number of beautiful summers looking after a friends cottage and his cats while he was away for about six weeks mountaineering. There I painted the surrounding countryside almost every day. When I wasn’t painting and listening to Match of the Day cricket commentary on BBC Radio 4, I was eating the wonderful cheeses and the fresh raspberries that I had picked in the cottage garden that afternoon. Just across the Seine is Giverny. I visited Giverny frequently and spent time looking at Monet’s garden.

Since I was in the land of William the Conqueror and the Bayeux Tapestry I wanted to make this landscape, and others I did there tapestry like. So I present the viewer with a flattened view and little or no perspective.
