Barking Mad came about in the usual way of Depechist pieces. That is, at the end of a painting day I look at the paint I have remaining on the pallet and use it on a handy sheet of good quality paper. Depechist painting is time limited. The longest side of the paper is measured in inches and the number of inches determines the number of minutes to make the work. 10 inches equals 10 minutes. I empty my mind before beginning and allow long past memories to awaken and become the theme. This was a memory of a nasty dog that lived somewhere along the road I walked to get home from my primary school in South West London.
